Identification
The genus Cryptops is readily recognisable due to the presence of 21 leg pairs (all other British and Irish centipedes have 15 pairs or at least 35 pairs). However species identification is difficult.
This species is closely related to C. hispanus Brolemann, 1920 and may belong to that species. It bears a superficial similarity to C. hortensis, but, among other subtle characters, lacks the pre-femoral groove characteristic of that species.
A description, with figures, is given by Lewis (2011).
