AGM and Field Meetings

There is an Annual Field Meeting & AGM, usually the first weekend (Thursday to Sunday) after Easter. We aim to move the location around Britain. Accommodation is usually field centre type. During the day a variety of sites are visited for the purposes of species recording. During the evenings short talks, identification workshops or other activities are held depending on demand and attendance. Notice of the meeting is given in the newsletter. Visitors from other countries are always welcome and should enquire of any of the officers for further information.

Additional Field Meetings are arranged from time to time, details given in the newsletters.

A list of previous field meetings and links to respective field meeting reports can be found here.

BMIG Bursaries

BMIG Bursaries have been introduced to help towards the costs of attending the annual field meetings. If the expense of travel and accommodation is putting you off coming to an annual meeting, a BMIG Bursary may be for you. More information here

BMIG Residential Field Weekend and AGM 2025

BMIG’s annual gathering in 2025 will be based at Berkhamsted School in Hertfordshire from Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th April. The main field work objective will be to cover a notably under-surveyed area in mid and north Hertfordshire, east of Berkhamsted. The area to the west has been surveyed by BMIG in 2004, based at Aston Clinton in Buckinghamshire.

BMIG has block-booked accommodation at St John’s House at the School. The cost will be £180 per person including VAT (full board, Thursday pm to Sunday am).

BMIG Bursaries are available to reduce the costs of the meeting for members attending the meeting for the first time. In return we would expect a short, written report on your experiences of the field meeting for the newsletter. If you have attended a BMIG weekend before then you know what to expect but we would warmly welcome anyone thinking of coming along for the first time. There is no expectation of attendees being able to identify everything or even anything they find and many newcomers get started by joining more experienced workers on field visits and picking up tips on collecting and identification as they go. Discussions and microscope work may go on long into the evening and the social side of the meetings is something regulars look forward to every year.

LAST DATE for booking is 31st January 2025, but PLEASE BOOK EARLY  ~   Download BOOKING FORM HERE
