C. cylindracea has an elongated, smooth, rounded shape, up to about 24 mm. The peduncle of the uropods is extended, equalling the length of the triangular pleotelson (which is finely serrated and setose). The first pleopods are chitinised, forming a hard covering for the other pleopods. It has small eyes and short antennae, and is typically mottled with orange on a white background.
