A small pale brown millipede (to 4mm in length) with body covered in tubercles and very similar in appearance to Poratia digitata (which also occurs inside heated glasshouses).
Distribution and Habitat
This species was described as new to science on the basis of material collected from Kew Gardens in 1975. It inhabits the soil and litter of the Palm House, Tropical Arid House No. 1 and Tropical Fern House No. 2 at Kew (Blower & Rundle, 1980). In 2015 specimens were found in the Tropical Palm House at RBG Edinburgh during BMIG's field meeting (Sivell, 2021).
This millipede has only recently been found 'in the wild' and is native to tropical rainforest in Australia (Mesibov, 2012).
This updated species account is based on Lee (2006).
