Identification

In Mecistocephalid centipedes the head is elongated being noticeably much longer than wide, leaving the forciples clearly visible when viewed from above. 

Dicellophilus carniolensis is a large reddish-yellow species (to 60 mm), always with 43 leg pairs.

More information to allow accurate identification is given in the published identification keys (Barber, 2008 & 2009).

Distribution and Habitat

The handful of British records for this introduced species are pre-1964 and from tropical glasshouses in Scotland and northern England. There have been no subsequent records and it is possible that the original records are mis-identified. This species is native to central Europe.
