Venue: The Lowport Centre is an outdoor activity centre in Linlithgow, an ancient town to the west of Edinburgh and the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. The palace ruins are still a major landmark overlooking Linlithgow Loch. The Lowport Centre is well situated, backing onto the palace grounds and very close to the train station. The Centre has its own café and will provide meals, but there is also a supermarket across the road and good pubs nearby. A conference room with a projector is available for talks and presentations. The bedrooms are shared accommodation but, depending on the uptake, some may be available for single occupancy and most have en suite facilities. Towels and bedding are all provided.
Surrounding area: The Lothians provide a good range of habitats ranging from raised bog, ancient woodland and sand dunes to synanthropic sites such as historic buildings, ornamental gardens and post-industrial sites. The City of Edinburgh is easily accessible from Linlithgow by train or car. The Lothians consist of a long, broad coastal plain bounded by the Firth of Forth to the north and hill ranges, rising to 650m, to the south. This coastal plain is punctuated by smaller hills, outcrops, valleys and gorges and is broadly agricultural, particularly to the east of Edinburgh, while industrial areas are more frequent to the west of the city.
Travel: The Lowport Centre is readily accessible by car or train, and is the right side of Edinburgh for the airport. Please check the Lowport Centre’s website for more details http://www.lowportcentre.co.uk/. Car parking spaces are available.
