In species, such as Trichonscus sp. the dorsal surface of the body is smooth (though some short setae may be present). Many Trichoniscids have a tuberculate body bearing rows of distinct raised bumps across the body segments. In Haplophthalmus sp. the body bears characteristic longitinal ridges.
