Identification

A large yellowish species (to 55 mm), with a large number of leg pairs (69 to 81) and distinctively shaped forciples. The coxal pores of the last legs are very indistinct. It can be confused with Haplophilus subterraneus, where the coxal pores of the last legs are very obvious.

Distribution and Habitat

It appears to be widespread in the home counties, but there are scattered records from Cornwall to Northumberland. It is often associated with human activity, such as gardens and churchyards.
