Prosopodesmus panporus Blower & Rundle, 1980

A small pale brown millipede (to 4mm in length) with body covered in tubercles and very similar in appearance to Poratia digitata (which also occurs inside heated glasshouses).

Distribution and Habitat

This species was described as new to science on the basis of material collected from Kew Gardens in 1975. It inhabits the soil and litter of the Palm House, Tropical Aroid House No. 1 and Tropical Fern House No. 2 at Kew (Blower & Rundle, 1980) and is only known from this one location; it is still not known from which country it was introduced to Kew.
